Skincare Essentials 101

Francesca M. Healy (1)

Welcome back everyone!

I just wanted to hop on and tell you a little bit about my updated skin care routine. To be absolutely honest, my skin has been terrible. I have always had the odd breakout and some rosacea, but nothing really concerning. Over the past 6 months or so I have been suffering from really bad eczema around my mouth and on my eye lids. I thought I would share some favourites that have eliminated my eczema, helped with my black heads and help the overall complexion of my skin.

  1. I am still using the Vichy Fresh Cleansing Gel. This stuff is a good bang for your buck because the bottle lasts FOREVER. I love using this morning and night because it doesn’t strip my skin. The biggest plus of this cleanser, I think, is that it lathers so nicely and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry.
  2. This Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil is hands down one of my favourite products. You would think something with the work “oil” in it would automatically mean that it would clog your pores, but this does just the opposite. I discovered this product when I went for my first facial at Dermalogica Canada (which was amazing by the way!). As someone who has very oily skin to start with I was very weary about this product. The minute I put this on my face it was like my skin gulped it up and was dying for some extra hydration. This oil is very light weight, smells nice and protects your skin. It is on the pricier end, but worth every penny.
  3. Garnier’s Clearly Brighter Moisturizer has been amazing for my skin. I was never one to put sunscreen on my face, but this moisturizer has one built in. It is nice and light, smells great and protects my skin from the sun. I definitely noticed my skin looked a lot brighter when I started using this and my sun spots got noticeably smaller, as well as my pores.
  4. Also a recommendation from Dermalogica, this Daily Microfoliant is a must no matter what type of skin you have. I never thought I had sensitive skin until my facial. This product is a powder that you pour on to the palm of your hand and add water, to make a liquid consistency. You then scrub it all over your face. This product is super gentle, you wouldn’t know it is a exfoliator but super effective. All my dead skin was gone after using this and super soft. It was recommended to use this product twice a week and build myself up to more.
  5. I picked up this face mask on a whim from Sephora. I was really drawn to this brand because they are all natural and don’t test on animals. This mask smells like tang oddly enough which reminds me of my childhood at my Nana and Papa’s. I really like this mask because it helps firm your skin and shrink your pores.
  6. I was fed up with my eczema after six months (don’t know why I waited that long) and was prescribed this tube of magic called Protopic. This stuff did wonders and had gotten rid of my eczema overnight. This stuff has to be used very sparingly and not very often. If eczema is something you are suffering with, I would definitely try Protopic.

I hope you enjoyed my skincare essentials. Give them a try and let me know if you liked any of them. As well, comment your favourites below!

Welcome back everyone! Long time, no talk – I have had a crazy 2 months, but it is so good to be back! To fill you in, exams kicked my butt and I struggled with a sinus infection for a month. Going to the doctor in the morning, getting antibiotics into me, a little rest and then rushing to my exam was my life for a good two weeks. Though it sounds like I am complaining, I learned a really important lesson through it. My dad said this to me when I called him sick and tired:

“Life throws you curves, dodge them and keep moving forward”

I believe this to be so true! We aren’t thrown what we can’t handle. Even though it may not feel like that in the moment, you can get through anything and when you do, you will feel even more empowered!

Now, on to Allan Gardens. I visited on a Friday afternoon with my long time friend Jess from All Things Jessica Marie. Let me say if you live in Toronto or are visiting, Allan Gardens is a MUST visit. We spent a few hours walking around and taking photos and time passed so quickly! There are so many different areas like a cactus section, tropical section and even a section with a floral arch. I thought a visit to Allan Gardens was a perfect time to whip out my new shirt from Zara. If you know me, you will always see me wearing black. Which is why I vowed to purchase and wear some more spring/summer pieces. I paired this statement top with some simple jeans and my favourite slides that I have been loving.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Spring Day

Hello lovelies!

Is anyone else so confused by this weather? How can it be so sunny one day (and get my hopes up that spring is finally here to stay) and freezing the other?¬† I am so ready for spring! I wore this outfit on one of Toronto’s warmer days to walk around the city.

I’ve put an outfit together that is both cute yet affordable. The jeans I’m wearing are from Abercrombie & Fitch. Not a store I usually shop at but, I found these super trendy and comfortable jeans for 50%. I threw on this black ruffle sweater from H&M and added some black booties and a purse to pull it all together. With the weather being so all over the place pick pieces that are comfortable and easy to layer so you can throw on a coat when it’s chillier in the morning and take it off when its warmer during the day.

My biggest goal for spring is to wear more whites and color’s! If you know me, that will be very tough as I am loyal to all of my black clothing.

Hope you all enjoyed, my boyfriend definitely had fun taking pictures for me ūüėČ

January Favourites

Welcome back everyone, it’s been a while! I have been SUPER busy with school and life but I am back at it for the new year. I thought I would hop on and share my monthly favourites with you guys. I have discovered some new goodies from Christmas that I wanted to share. Enjoy!!

I received this essential oil diffuser by ellia from my mom this past Christmas. I have wanted one for what seems like forever and it has quickly become a daily staple. The diffuser is easy to use with simple settings, as well as a cool light feature. I am constantly using my diffuser and it has become a staple in my everyday routine. Some of my favourite essential oil’s have been a blend of orange and cinnamon to make my room smell yummy, my fight it blend also from ellia and my sleep time blend that I run all night. I would highly recommend a diffuser if you have trouble sleeping, have anxiety or depression, need help relaxing or just looking for a yummy smelling alternative to candles. Essential oils can be quite expensive, so make sure to check out Winners and HomeSense for some more affordable options. Also, ensure that they are 100% pure essential oils.

Another one of my favourites that I received for Christmas! I have been wanting a salt lamp for forever and was so excited to see what all the hype was about. Salt lamps are proven to:

  • Increase your energy levels
  • Increase your mood
  • Help with anxiety and depression
  • Reduce allergy & asthma symptoms
  • Better sleep

Because I have anxiety and depression, this has been an awesome tool for me. I have it sitting on my bed side table and have it on all the time. I especially like to use it when I am relaxing paired with my diffuser. You can get salt lamps just about anywhere and they are very affordable.

I don’t know about you, but this winter my skin has been VERY dry. I’ve never suffered with dry skin before so this was a first for me. I had a hard time trying to find an eye cream that didn’t have any anti-aging properties in it. I find that products that do tend to dry the skin around my eyes out even more. I found this Avene cream at Shoppers on sale and it has been a miracle worker for my skin. This line is great for those with sensitive skin as it is fragrance free and preservative free. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!

Also a Christmas gift, this backpack has been a favourite for walking around the city. It is simple, small, big enough to carry all the essentials, and black so it goes with everything. This was purchased at a Kate Spade outlet for a fourth of the original price. So let me tell you, NEVER purchase something at the Kate Spade store in your mall, hit up the outlet stores! This goes for all designer handbags like Tory Burch for example.

That concludes my January favourites. Let me know if you give any of these products a try. Don’t forget, always visit the outlet stores first because you can get some great deals.

Welcome back everyone! I am back to share one of my staple healthy snacks that are what I like to call “healthy cookie bites”. I discovered the idea of these bites at Freshii, one of my favorite healthy restaurants. Adapted from Gimmie Some Oven, these bites are healthy, simple and of course delicious. They are good for a quick breakfast on the go or a snack to help you get through a long day. They are made with simple ingredients and pantry staples. These are really simple to make as they are no-bake, you just throw all ingredients in a bowl, mix and roll in to bite sized balls.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup (dry) oatmeal
  • 2/3 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup ground¬†flax seeds
  • 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon¬†vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Stir all ingredients together in a  bowl until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Roll mixture into balls of whatever size you would like. Cover and let chill in the refrigerator for half an hour. Store in a container and keep refrigerated.
  3. Makes about 15-20 balls.

Give this recipe a try. Let me know how you guys like them, because I LOVE them!
